Congrats to Lori and Daniel on a fantastic wedding up in Omaha last weekend. In the next few days, look forward to more photos from both Clay and I, and another wedding next week!

Kevin and Karla

Kevin and Karla are moving away to Seattle, so they wanted some photos done. I was more than happy to oblige. The weather right now is perfect, and the sunsets are fantastic.

Some Volleyball action

Shot some friends as they were playing in their volleyball league. I had fantastic light for about half an hour, but then the sun went down.






Check out the 'stache that my friend Christopher is growing for Cinco de Mustache. He is going to dress up as Snidely Whiplash. It is fantastic.

pano ramo ding dong

So, I am in the process of switching over the blog to a new format so the photos will be much larger. It is acting a bit weird, but once it is all ironed out, it will (hopefully) look dynamite. In the further adventures of my parents moving from my childhood home, here are a bunch of panoramas shot over a couple of weeks. Each shot is about 6-9 photos stitched together, I have always like panoramas that are not cropped to be a perfect frame. I tend to like the more jagged edges on the sides and the white spaces.

Meanwhile, back at the farm...

Spent some time back at my parents farm, clearing brush and old buildings in preparation for their new home. Found some old coffee cans, played with a chainsaw, and all in all had a great day of physical labor.

Avoca Quack-Off 2009

Shot the Avoca Quack-Off again this year. I always love small town events, and Nebraska has many of them. The quack-off is where people get really drunk and then chase ducks to raise money for the local fire department. Always a great time.

Wedding, Tomsen Style

I had a fantastic time last weekend shooting the wedding of Nicholas and Michaela Tomsen. They are the type of couple who make my job easy. Great moments together, great family, great everything. Without further ado, here's some shots. (As always, just click on the photos to get an even bigger version.)



I shot several portraits of them in front of the tree from down on the ground, but i happen to love high places, so i went up the stairs to the next floor and shot down at them. A single strobe on the ground to the left works wonders and gives some great shadows.

Once again, window light is still my friend. I'd even say we are best pals. Detail shots of the dress are great things, and a very small amount of fill flash helps add a little more depth. hooray!



Another portrait, this time taken at the Old market lofts. We spent a bunch of time in that fantastic building.



Here Nick and Michaela run inside from the wind after we were done shooting on top of the lofts. It was kinda cold.



The Kiss. Can't go wrong.



They rode a trolley from the ceremony to the reception hall. For this shot, I had a shutter time of a full second to catch the Christmas light streaming past. The trolley driver was this giant man with a great big bushy beard.

The back ground lighting on the bridal party's table was fantastic. Like I said, they made it too easy for me.



And to end it all, a quick 2 minute portrait outside the church as the sun set. Thanks go out to Nick and Michaela for letting me join in on this great day.

Wedding, Ruiz style

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. Ruiz. Shot their wedding a few weeks back. (yes, I know, I am always slow in updating) It was a fantastic time, if not a bit cold.


For this first shot, i had to pull a stranger to stand in the spot of light so i could meter off their face so i was ready for when she came by. Window light + happy bride = Happy photo.



Andrea's multitasking skills are second to none. Two phones? Are you serious? Some days i have problems with just one phone.



Yep, there are over 5 people attending to her at one time. Pretty much every wedding I spend most of my time with the bride, while i have my assistant shooting with the groom. It is always weird to see the photos of the groom getting ready, because he is by himself for the most of it. Don't get me wrong, tuxes are complicated things, but the groom and his groomsmen have nothing on what the bride has to go through.




If i see a small kid trying to climb up stairs to little effect, you know i am going to shoot a photo of it.

As with the kid going up the stairs, if there is fire, im gonna shoot it.



I had the best man hold my flash so i could trigger it remotely from the other end of the limo for this shot. Soon after, he looked directly into the flash when i had fired it at full power. Flash tip: do not look directly into the flash.



As always, i need to bring out the stick cam. Slap a camera with a really wide lens on the end of a fully extended monopod and trigger it with a flash attached. The song was Shout, which is always great for the stick cam. You get people jumping up, shouting, with hands in the air. How can you go wrong?



And finally, the Mother/Son dance. I really hate on-camera flash, it is just no fun. I have a lot more fun throwing it behind people or to the side, and that is why i can get happy backlight like in this photo.

All in all, a fantastic day. Thanks to Clay Lomneth for assisting, and congrats to Chris and Andrea Ruiz on a great wedding.

Some corn!

Met up with Clay Lomneth today to go over some plans for the wedding he is assisting me with this weekend. And because we had such a great sunset, we decided to head just out of town to shoot some photos. The light was fantastic, when the sun was not peaking behind the clouds.

State

Shot some state football last saturday. While it started off with decent temperatures, it dropped about 15 to 20 degrees by the end of the game. Hooray for gloves and a stocking cap! Here is Aurora celebrating after their win.




Getting a decent shot of players busting through a paper barrier can be tough. You pretty much have to just jam on the shutter button and hope you catch the moment when the hit.
